For Lent, I give up trying

a sun explodes

For Lent, I'm going to give up trying.

I'm going to give up trying to force myself into some kind of confined idea about what a human is supposed to be.

I'm going to give up trying to prevent myself from enjoying things.

I'm going to give up trying to make futile efforts work.

I'm going to give up trying to abstain.

For Lent, I'm going to give up on being anything less than the messy, expansive, all-over-the-place version of who I am. I'm going to give up on all the boundaries around my self-definition. I'm going to enjoy, and drink in, and satiate my thirst. I'm going to reach for what is too far, and try for what is too hard.

Mostly, I'm going to give up on the idea that being an excellent human has something to do with self-denial.

For Lent, I'm going to give up trying, and I'm just going to

Letting go is the heart of lent. I find when I give up trying, I'm less thirsty too. Lovely reflection.
